Recognising students’ achievements

Bell Bedgebury International School, Prize Giving, 27 June 2008

Bell Bedgebury International School held its inaugural Prize Giving on 27June, to celebrate the achievements of the last year. The event was attended by parents and overseas visitors from Brazil and Russia, plus members of the Bell’s Board of Governors.

David Morse, Principal, welcomed everyone and Sue Harris, the Vice Principal gave a review of the school year and all the achievements. Pupils Pablo Gilson from Belgium, Maria Gregorio Barberan from Spain and Rebeka  Bernik from Slovenia all made short speeches about the school’s sports, academic and leisure activities.

Rebeka was highlighted in Sue’s speech as the first winner of the Frank Bell Scholarship. This has supported her studies at the school over the year. She has made the most of the educational and life experience that this has offered. The Scholarship is offered in memory of Frank Bell – the founder of the organisation.

David Morse commented “The prize giving was a very special occasion for Bedgebury. It marks a year of great achievement for all the pupils and acknowledges their academic work, sporting achievements and learning to live together in an international family, celebrating both the communality and diversity of their cultures”.

The prize giving concluded with the award of the Frank Bell Prize – a prize in honour of Bell’s founder, which goes to the pupil who personifies the ethos of Frank Bell. He believed in changing lives through the learning experience and friendly co-operation in study. The winner, chosen by teachers and house parents, was Nina Scaletscky from Brazil. Nina has impressed all the staff with her enthusiasm, dedication to learning and willingness to contribute to all aspects of school life.

Prizes were given for pupils who had excelled in each subject and those who had made special progress and improvement. All pupils were awarded certificates of attendance by Andrew Fellows, a Governor of the Bell Educational Trust.
