Two-year GCSE programme

For those students who need time to develop their language and academic skills, we offer a two-year GCSE programme.

We also offer a Five term GCSE programme and an Intensive one-year GCSE programme.

Minimum language level IELTS 4.0 / Common European Framework level B1
Programme outline

Year one - students improve their English language skills and English for Academic Purposes. Students may sit GCSE exams at foundation level.

Year two - students choose five or six subjects and study intensively to take GCSE examinations at higher level.
Subjects and qualifications

All students take exams in:

  • English, either the IGCSE or Trinity ISE exam
  • Maths
  • their own first language
  • Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

Students then choose a further two or three subjects from:

  • Business Studies
  • Geography
  • Art
  • A modern foreign language
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Physical Education

Students also study Personal, Social & Health Education
Weekly tuition 25 hours plus 7 hours of supervised prep
Weekly sports and activities 5 hours sport and activities
Organised trips and tours

Tours are dependent on subjects studied. Previous study trips have included visits to:

  • Down House, where Charles Darwin worked on his scientific theories, and wrote 'On the Origin of Species'
  • theatre trips with a tour behind the scenes
  • Herstmonceaux Observatory, to discover the history of astronomy

Termly fees for the academic year 2009/2010 are £8,300
Termly fees for the academic year 2010/2011 are £8,600

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
A language course that includes learning skills and vocabulary appropriate for study and is designed to support students in their academic education.
