| Programme outline |
The programme combines English language tuition and quality
subject teaching with a full programme of sports, activities and
excursions, giving students an insight into their term time studies.
The course introduces students to the key concepts and essential
vocabulary needed to succeed on either an A-level or International
Baccalaureate Programme.
All students study English and ‘Core Studies’, which consists of
ICT, Study Skills and considers a number of global issues such as
the environment, education and technology.
Students intending to study the International Baccalaureate will
also be given an introduction to the ‘Theory of Knowledge’.
Subjects
Students study one subject from each option group:
- Group 1: Mathematics, Economics*, Physics, Art
- Group 2: Mathematics, Business Studies*, Chemistry, Biology
Students may follow these option subjects for the full four week academic programme or may choose different option subjects for the last two weeks.
* Students may not study both Economics and Business Studies together.
- Mathematics
Students will study a selection of the core topics at A-level /
International Baccalaureate level, which include algebra,
trigonometry, calculus, statistics and probability.
- Biology, Chemistry and Physics
In addition to learning key vocabulary, students will focus on
practical work and investigative skills.
- Business Studies and Economics
Students will follow an introduction to these popular A-level
subjects and acquire an understanding of some of the main
concepts.
- Art
In addition to developing their artistic skills, students will focus on
the analytical and linguistic skills needed to explore and reflect on
the development of their ideas.

| Study tours |
As part of the course, each week students visit one of the UK’s
historic towns or cities, such as Cambridge, London, Canterbury,
Brighton or Oxford. As well as giving students an insight into
British life and culture, the study tours are also linked to their
study programme, for example those studying science subjects
may visit a science museum. |

Glossary
GCSE
an academic qualification awarded in a specified subject, generally taken in a number of subjects by students aged 14-16 in secondary education in England.
A-level
Part of the Further Education system in the UK. For students looking to continue their education at a British university, A-levels are the ‘gold standard’ of British education and are accepted by all UK universities, as well as many other institutions worldwide.
