| Programme outline |
The programme combines English language tuition and quality
subject teaching with a full programme of sports, activities and
excursions, giving students an insight into their term time studies.
Students prepare to study at GCSE level by:
- learning the essential vocabulary they need to understand
their subjects in English
- exploring key concepts
- acquiring valuable study skills
- experiencing the style of teaching and learning used in UK
boarding schools.
Subjects
All students study English, Mathematics and ICT throughout the
course.
For the first two weeks students study one subject from each
option group:
- Group 1: Physics, Biology, Art
- Group 2: Chemistry, Business Studies, Geography
For the third week, students are encouraged to choose a different
subject from each option group. This means that students have
the opportunity to focus on up to four subjects over the three week
academic programme.
- Mathematics
Students will be introduced to key topics such as algebra,
geometry, data handling and methods of calculation.
- ICT
Students will develop their skills with practical work on word
processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Biology, Chemistry, Physics
In addition to learning key vocabulary and concepts, students will
focus on practical work and investigative skills.
- Business Studies
Students will be introduced to key terms and ideas and learn how
businesses operate.
- Geography
Students will learn some important concepts in
urban and rural environments as well as
aspects of physical geography.
- Art
In addition to developing their
artistic abilities, students will
develop the analytical and
linguistic skills necessary to
evaluate their work.

| Study tours |
As part of the course, each week students visit one of the UK’s
historic towns or cities, such as Cambridge, London, Canterbury,
Brighton or Oxford. As well as giving students an insight into
British life and culture, the study tours are also linked to their
study programme, for example those studying science subjects
may visit a science museum. |
